Uninstall Hushtop

Last updated: 8 October 2026

In short
To remove Hushtop completely, undo what it connected, quit it, delete the app, then delete its data. Your license stays yours: the key in your purchase email keeps working. If you plan to use it on another Mac, deactivate this one first.

Keep your license#

Uninstalling doesn’t cancel or use up your license. Keep your purchase email; if you lose it, you can get the key again from Restore purchase.

Moving to a new Mac? Before you uninstall, open Settings › License and click Deactivate This Mac…. That frees the key for the new Mac. Your license has the details.

Before you delete the app#

Do these in Hushtop first, while it’s still installed. Skip any you never turned on.

  1. Save your settings if you might want them later: Settings › General › Transfer or Reset › Export…. The file holds preferences only, never tokens or passwords.
  2. Remove integrations. Open Settings › Integrations and click Remove… on every row that says Connected (for example Claude Code hooks, Claude Code statusline, Codex notifications and Long commands). Hushtop takes out only its own part of each file and leaves yours as it was.
  3. Remove the agent skill file, if you installed it: Settings › AI agents › Agent skill › Remove….
  4. Remove the lid helper, if you allowed it for keeping your Mac awake with the lid closed. In the notch, open Keep awake and click Remove… next to Lid helper allowed. It asks for your administrator password and turns sleep back on first.
  5. Disconnect Telegram, if you set up phone alerts with your own bot: Settings › Notifications, then Disconnect…. This deletes the bot token from your Keychain.
  6. Turn off launch at login: Settings › General › Launch Hushtop at login.

Delete the app#

  1. Click the Hushtop icon in the menu bar and choose Quit Hushtop.
  2. In Finder, open Applications and drag Hushtop to the Bin.
  3. Empty the Bin.

Delete its data#

Deleting the app leaves your data in place, so a reinstall picks up where you left off. To remove it too, open Finder, choose Go › Go to Folder…, and delete these:

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Hushtop: your notes, clipboard history, saved lyrics, license files and the backups of files Hushtop changed for integrations.
  • ~/Library/Preferences/com.hushtop.app.plist: your settings.
  • ~/Library/Caches/com.hushtop.app, if it exists.

Deleting the data folder can’t be undone. To check what’s in it first, use Settings › Privacy › Storage › Show in Finder before you quit.

Delete its Keychain items#

Open Keychain Access (in Applications › Utilities), search for these names and delete them:

  • com.hushtop.license: the date your trial started.
  • com.mynotch.telegram: only if you connected a Telegram bot and didn’t disconnect it.

Hushtop creates no other Keychain items. If you turned on Claude limits from your Anthropic account, Hushtop read Claude Code’s own login item; that item belongs to Claude Code, so leave it.

Remove the lid helper without Hushtop#

If you deleted the app before removing the lid helper, remove it in Terminal. It asks for your administrator password:

sudo launchctl bootout system/com.hushtop.closedlid-helper; sudo rm -f /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.hushtop.closedlid-helper.plist /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.hushtop.closedlid-helper /var/db/com.hushtop.closedlid-helper.hold

Clean up files outside Hushtop#

If you deleted the app before removing its integrations, the entries it added stay in your files. They do nothing without Hushtop, and your own commands keep running, but you can take them out by hand. Each one is marked:

  • ~/.claude/settings.json: hook commands ending in # mynotch-hook, and a statusLine command ending in # mynotch-statusline. Put back your previous statusline command, or delete the entry.
  • ~/.codex/config.toml: a notify entry containing # mynotch-notify.
  • Your shell’s startup file, for example ~/.zshrc: the block that starts with # >>> Hushtop command hook >>>. For fish, the file conf.d/mynotch.fish.
  • ~/.agents/skills/hushtop/SKILL.md: the agent skill file.

Remove its permissions#

Optional: open System Settings › Privacy & Security, go to Accessibility and any other list where you allowed Hushtop, select Hushtop and click the minus button.
